Highway Equipment & Supply Co. launched the first-annual Giving Tree holiday program on November 26, 2018.

The Giving Tree program provides local needy families with holiday gifts in coordination with area Salvation Armies. Local businesses sponsor Giving Trees on which they place wish list gift tags. Highway encourages staff and customers to pick a tag representing a child’s wish list from each branch’s Giving Tree.

How to Participate

  1. Visit your local Highway branch

  2. Select a child from the Giving Tree

  3. Tear off the bottom portion (the wish list) from the tag and put the tag back on the tree

  4. Follow the instructions on the tag and purchase any or all of the gifts listed

  5. Mark the gift box, bag, or tag with the child’s code (found on the tag)

  6. Return the unwrapped gifts to the Highway branch by the deadline

Giving Tree locations and deadlines are as follows:

Inspired by the classic Shel Silverstein book, The Giving Tree, the Salvation Army Giving Tree program focuses on the spirit of giving and service to others during the holiday season.

“I suggested this community service project as my previous employer always sponsored it, and it fulfilled me more than anything during the holiday season," said HR, Marketing, & Communications Manager Jennifer Nauss. "I’d pick children close in age to my grandsons, and then take my grandsons shopping with me with a preset budget. They’d pick out the items from the wish list while learning the value of doing good for others, budgeting, and having to shop for someone else and not getting anything for themselves. I’m excited about restarting this tradition through Highway.”
